Welcome to another chaotic, glue-splattered adventure at Hot Mess, Handmade — where my kids dream big, my floor sparkles (but not in a good way), and I pretend I meant to hot glue that to the table.
This week, we turned two shoeboxes into the most fabulous, over-the-top, mini fiesta float parade you’ve ever seen. Featuring:
One diva flamingo with a flair for fiestas
Two tiny cascarones luchador in the ring fighting for the championship and the crow goes wild!
Because why stop at one float when your children are convinced they’re each the star of the show?
Float #1: Flamingo at the Fiesta
What’s the Vibe?
Think fiesta party meets preschool confetti bomb. Our flamingo is NOT just chilling — she’s the Queen of honor. She’s sipping imaginary punch. She’s serving feathered fabulousness. And she has better accessories than me.
Highlights:
Fiesta sombrero? Check.
Tiny Cascarones? Double check.
The kind of sunglasses that say “I conga when I want to.”

Craft Chaos Notes:
My daughter insisted on a “real chair" fit for her Royal Majesty, so we made one of course.
We had one glitter accident. (Okay, three.)
The flamingo now lives on our dining table. I’ve accepted it.
Float #2: El Pequeño Campeón (aka Two Little Luchador)
What’s the Vibe?
Pure boldness. Pure bravery. Pure tiny masked warrior energy. My son built a lucha libre float that screamed "¡Viva la fiesta!" and also "Don’t touch my cascarones, sister."
Highlights:
Shoebox turned wrestling ring with mini ropes
Starbursts, lightning bolts, and victory poses
> "El Pequeño Campeón enters the ring to defend his title... and maybe steal a cookie."
Craft Chaos Notes:
He wanted flames. We added so many stars.
Regret: moderate.
The float now doubles as a stage for stuffed animal smackdowns.
We almost lost a cascarones to a snack emergency.

Final Thoughts:
Crafting with kids isn’t neat, and it’s definitely not quiet. But these shoebox floats? They gave us laughs, memories, and one pink flamingo who’s absolutely judging me from across the room.
